A trio of standouts - forwards Dustin Hogue (Iowa State) and Ryan Spangler (Oklahoma) and guard Kenny Chery (Baylor) - have been named recipients of the latest Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week awards. Hogue and Chery are recognized for the first time, while Spangler wins his second rookie accolade of 2013-14.
Spangler averaged a double-double last week as the Sooners' captured three victories. The sophomore forward had 13.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, grabbing at least nine boards in each contest. He established career-highs with 20 points and 13 rebounds versus Mercer, making 7-of-10 shots from the field. He matched the rebound total versus George Mason, also grabbing 13 in that outing. For three games, he shot 60.9 percent from the field, while making one 3-pointer. He also connected on 10-of-13 (.769) free throws with four assists, four blocks and two steals.
Spangler and the Sooners are back in action on Saturday when Tulsa comes to Norman for a 4 p.m. tip.
