A Ponca City couple says they got a strange call from a strange sounding man Tuesday.
Tim and Kathy Herrington say the man told them they had won the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes, and were eligible for a $950,000 prize. The Herrington's knew it was a scam because it's been years since either one of them had ever entered it.
Their antenna's went way up when the man—who said his name was Michael Scott—told them they could collect their prize by going to their nearest Walgreens and paying a $22.90 activation fee. They called the police, the district attorney's office and News 9 instead.
"Makes me feel cheap like somebody's trying to buy me," Kathy Herrington said. "You know like somebody thinks we're stupid, but I got news for him."
The Oklahoma City Better Business Bureau says you should never have to pay money to collect a prize.
