Georgia Inmates Behind Scam Targeting Oklahoma Elderly

The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) has traced a scam targeting elderly victims in Oklahoma to two inmates in Georgia.

The inmates would call senior citizens and tell them they had outstanding warrants or fines that had to be paid immediately. The criminals would convince victims to purchase a pre-paid credit card, and use the money to pay the fines. Some victims lost money.

OCSO investigators say the inmates were somehow able to identify elderly targets, call them, and conduct transactions through Western Union. The case will be sent to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office for possible charges.
