Oklahoma State had six players reach double figures as the eighth-ranked Cowboys defeated Emporia State 87-51 here Friday night in the final exhibition game of the season.
Senior Markel Brown scored a game-high 14 points and also grabbed six rebounds. Marcus Smart, freshman Stevie Clark and Phil Forte each had 11, while Le'Bryan Nash and Kamari Murphy scored 10 points each. Murphy also had a team-high seven rebounds while Clark dished out a game-high five assists.
The Cowboys took a 10-point lead 8-1/2 minutes into the game, and after a three-pointer by ESU's Jay Temaat cut the lead to 19-10, the Pokes went on a 21-2 run to take a commanding 28-point lead a minute before intermission.
OSU's stifling defense forced 25 Hornet turnovers which led to 30 points. The Cowboys also outscored Emporia State 48-16 in the paint.
The season starts for real next Friday, Nov. 8, when OSU hosts Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
