Another long time educator is throwing her hat in the ring to improve education issues across the state. She joins what could be a pretty crowded ballot come election time.
Dr. Freda Deskin, who has more than 40 years of education experience, says her experience and courage to make tough decisions make her the best candidate.
Kim Henry, former first lady of Oklahoma and Deskin's campaign chair, joined her for the announcement.
Deskin is joining other democrats, Ivan Holmes, Jack Herron, Donna Anderson and John Cox in the race.
Current State Superintendent Janet Barresi will face a primary challenge from Republican Joy Hofmeister.
Deskin plans to tackle many issues including excessive testing, inadequate funding and teacher shortages, among other issues.
"It seems that we've been throwing mud against the walls and seeing what sticks in education recently and we've had a ready, fire aim approach and the losers are our children," Deskin said.
Deskin said the state is at a critical crossroads when it comes to education. She said her background will help the state make education a priority again.
