Former Westmoore HS Employee Charged Following Drinking Party

A leader of a cheerleading group at Westmoore High School is now facing criminal charges. Prosecutors say Courtney Nicole Hatchell hosted an underage drinking party at her Southwest Oklahoma City home on April 6, 2013.

Two misdemeanors for providing minors with alcohol and hosting an underage party were filed in Cleveland County District Court this week. Parents tell News 9 they're happy to see wheels of justice in motion.

Moore Public Schools says Hatchell resigned shortly after she was suspended and police began an investigation. Now, from all accounts, it looks like the former cheerleading advisor has moved.

At first, police heard allegations of alcohol and drugs. Fingers were pointed at two Westmoore High School employees, but now just Hatchell faces charges.

"Certainly, when things like this happen, parents are surprised it was someone they trusted with their kids," Greg Mashburn, Cleveland County district attorney said.

None of the parents News 9 spoke with would go on camera. Most say they just want the case behind them. Prosecutors say the party was held at Hatchell's house in Southwest Oklahoma City. Neighbors say she moved out last month.

Parents tell News 9, girls from 13 to 17 years of age drank at the party and police say some were pressured.

"The allegations are that there was a statement even made, hey, you need to drink this so if one of us gets in trouble, we'll all get into trouble," Mashburn said.

The State has cell phone video evidence, and one parent has turned over a phone conversation she recorded between her daughter and Hatchell.

The District Attorney's Office says Hatchell was never arrested. A bench warrant for her arrest was dismissed at her arraignment last week. Prosecutors say the other faculty member, who was earlier implicated in police reports, was found to not have direct involvement in providing the kids with alcohol.
