Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Maurice Cheeks has been named the new head coach of the Detroit Pistons.
Cheeks was previously the head coach for the Portland Trailblazers from 2001-05 and the Philadelphia 76ers from 2005-08. He has been with Scott Brooks and OKC since 2009.

As a player, Cheeks was a four-time All-Star and won an NBA Championship with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1983. He was also a four-time selection for the All-Defensive First Team.
No word on who will replace Cheeks on the Thunder bench.
