Lab Manager At OU Medical Receives Prestigious Award

The laboratory manager at OU Medical Center has been given a national award for service over and above the call of duty. 

Crystal Glass is in charge of reading and reporting lab results for cancer patients. But her superiors say she does much more than that. 

OU Medical Center is operated by Healthcare Corporation of America, or HCA.  HCA has awarded Crystal Glass the "Frist" Humanitarian award.  The award is named after the man who started HCA. 

Crystal Glass is best-known for her work with young cancer patients.

"My role is to connect with them," she said. "My objective is not to view these children as a diagnosis, but as a person who has a story to tell."
