Local federal prosecutors say they've busted up an illegal billion-dollar Internet sports gambling operation, with tentacles that reach across the country, and even down in Central America.

The FBI office in Oklahoma City says 34 people, including eight from Oklahoma, are named in the 95-page federal indictment. The allegations involve the Panamanian sports gambling website "Legendz Sports."

Prosecutors say the 34 people named helped the website recruit online sports bettors, who gambled hundreds of millions of dollars on sporting events on the web site.

"There is legal gambling, and this is not legal gambling," FBI Special Agent In Charge James Finch said Wednesday. "They couldn't set this operation up in the United States, so they set it up in a place where it was legal, that doesn't make it legal here."
