The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team earned a No. 1 seed and will host Stanford, Penn State, Washington, Iowa and Southern Utah on Saturday, April 6.
The Sooners, ranked No. 2 nationally and the Big 12 Conference champions, will look to win their fourth-straight Regional title and earn a 10th-consecutive NCAA Championship berth when they host one of six NCAA Regionals at the Lloyd Noble Center next Saturday at 4 p.m. CT.
Stanford, ranked No. 11 nationally and the second seed, will make its second trip to Norman this season after previously competing on the Sooners' Senior Day on March 10, falling to OU, 197.525-196.000. OU and Washington also faced off earlier this year at the Metroplex Challenge, with the Sooners topping the Huskies, 197.275-194.875.
The NCAA also announced the rotation order for each Regional. The Sooners will start on vault, then follow the usual order (bars, beam then floor) with a bye before bars and floor.
Oklahoma is led by Big 12 Coach of the Year K.J. Kindler who has guided the Sooners to the nation's best record at 21-1 this year. OU won its fifth Big 12 Championship in the last six seasons last Saturday while also sweeping every individual title. OU junior Taylor Spears, the Big 12 Gymnast of the Year, won the all-around and tied for the bars and beam conference titles.
The top two teams from each Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, held April 19 on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, to compete for a spot in the NCAA Super Six and a national championship on April 20.
