Oklahoma State freshman Marcus Smart has been named the Big 12 Conference's Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday. It is his fifth "of-the-Week" honor this season and the fourth time he's been named the Rookie of the Week.
Smart continued his impressive all-around play last week by averaging 19 points in two Cowboy wins, while totaling 10 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocked shots. The freshman shot 55 percent from the floor, including 4-of-6 (.667) from beyond the arc, while making 12-of-15 (.800) from the line.
His top performance came against in-state rival Oklahoma, as he led the Cowboys to a second-half comeback and finished with a career-high 28 points. One of his steals versus the Sooners came on a block of a three-point attempt with less than 20 seconds remaining that resulted in a held ball and possession to OSU.
With his fourth Rookie of the Week honor, Smart becomes the first Cowboy in school history to achieve that feat. Maurice Baker (2000-01) and Torre Johnson (2005-06) both were named Rookie of the Week three times during their initial season in the Big 12.
Smart and the 14th-ranked Cowboys host No. 9 Kansas on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
