A man and a woman from Detroit, Michigan, were arrested in Oklahoma after Canadian County Sheriff's deputies found about 230 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle on Saturday, January 26.
According to the Sheriff's Office, at about 10:20 a.m. Saturday, a vehicle driven by Nathan Bond was stopped by deputies near Banner Road in Canadian County due to a traffic violation.
Authorities say one of the department's drug-sniffing canines became alerted to the vehicle. Deputies then searched the car and found about 230 pounds of marijuana packed inside multiple suitcases in the rear cargo area of the car.
Nathan Bond, and his passenger Carmelita Ousley, were both arrested and booked into the Canadian County Sheriff's Office. They will be facing charges relating to the trafficking of marijuana. Their bond was set at $55,000 each.
"I'm extremely proud of the hard work, and dedication put forth by my deputies in not only taking these loads off the streets, but especially in the arrests of those hauling the drugs," said Randall Edwards, Sheriff of Canadian County.
Bond did not have a driver's license. Sheriff Edwards said this also wasn't Bond's first encounter with law enforcement.
