A little more than a month after the Sandy Hook tragedy, the President has put forth his plan toward stopping gun violence.

Oklahoma gun owners doubt the proposed changes will do much to curb violence.

President Obama wants to eliminate high-capacity magazine clips. Anything holding more than 10 rounds would be banned.

"You can change them in a seconds," says Tim Nelson of Heartland Outdoors in Edmond, who thinks anyone can fire dozens of rounds quickly by quickly changing the less capacity clips.

Obama wants to ban "military-style assault weapons". But Nelson tells News 9 semi-automatic rifles, like the AR-15, can easily be modified so they are not banned.

"It's smoke and mirrors," says Nelson about the proposed ban.

The President is also calling for universal background checks, hoping to eliminate private person-to-person sales where background checks aren't needed to buy.

The White House says these transactions make up to 40% of total gun sales.
