U.S. Rep. James Lankford says he plans to seek the chairmanship of the House Republican Policy Committee in the upcoming Congress.
The Edmond Republican announced Thursday that he would seek the post being vacated by U.S. Rep. Tom Price of Georgia.
First established in 1949, the committee is used for Republican House members to develop policies and legislative proposals.
If elected by his colleagues, Lankford vowed to use the post to help develop "thoughtful and commonsense legislation that directly addresses the needs of the American people."
Lankford won re-election to his second term in the U.S. House Tuesday with nearly 60 percent of the vote over Democrat Tom Guild and two independents.
