Local teen Lorelei Decker is one of the Thunder's biggest fans. When she was stricken with cancer last year, the organization stepped in and made one of her biggest dreams come true – making her honorary coach for the day. Thursday night she returns the favor traveling to Phoenix with coach Scott Brooks as the team is honored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation with its prestigious Chris Greicius Celebrity Award.
The Foundation says they give the award to celebrities who show an exceptional dedication to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Last year alone, the charity granted nearly 14,000 wishes across the country. With the Thunder's help, 9,000 of those were realized.
The Thunder is among a high-profile list of celebrities recognized for their contributions to the charity. Other honorees include: Bethany Hamilton, the inspiration of the movie Soul Surfer, singer Katy Perry, Disney's Selena Gomez, President of NBC Olympics Gary Zenkel, and WWE Superstar John Cena.
