An Oklahoma City middle school student is allegedly stabbed by another student at school during lunch.
It happened Monday at Roosevelt Middle School located at 3233 S.W. 44th Street. According to a statement by the Oklahoma City Public Schools Administration, an 8th grade student was stabbed in the upper lip with a knife by a 7th grade student during the lunch period at school.
The school's resource officer responded to the incident immediately and the injured student was released to his parents.
Oklahoma City Police officers arrested the 13-year-old student with the knife at school. According to police, the student had a tactical style pocket knife. After a pat-down, police also found a hidden box blade wrapped in homework papers in his right rear pants pocket.
The district says that the student will be disciplined according to the district Student Code of Conduct, suspending him for one year.
"The Oklahoma City Public School District's goal is to educate students in a safe learning environment," the OKCPS Administration said in a statement. "The district does not tolerate weapons on any OKCPS campus and administrators will work with police to prosecute any student or person who violates the district policy."
According to police, the student brought the knife into the school. He's now in a juvenile detention facility and faces charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and carrying a weapon onto school grounds.
