The Oklahoma Sooner soccer team suffered a loss in its final nonconference match before the start of conference play on Sunday in Dallas.
OU fell 3-0 to Southern Methodist, sending the Sooners back to Norman with a 4-4-2 record heading into the Big 12.
The Sooners were led by Renae Cuellar, who recorded five shots, four of them on goal. Jade Dapaah added two shots, one on target. OU was outshot 16-10, with 11 of SMU's shots coming in the opening half. Each team had five shots in the second half.
Devonshire, the reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, recorded five saves on the night. The three goals allowed was just the second time this season OU allowed more than one goal.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the game. The goal came courtesy of Shelby Redman, sending it past OU goaltender Kelsey Devonshire with a shot from just outside the box.
SMU added its second goal of the night 10 minutes later, courtesy of Olivia Elliott on a free kick just outside the box. The final goal came in the 82nd minute from Mallory Baum.
OU returns for a two-game homestand when the Sooners host Baylor on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. before playing rival Texas on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
