New court documents show a man admitted to drinking several beers, and then hitting and killing a woman with his car in southwest Oklahoma City.

Police arrested 30-year-old Salvador Lopez on August 23. He's accused of hitting 27-year-old Rusti Bates as she walked across the street near S.W. 29th Street and Lee Avenue. Police say he left the mother of three lying in the street, drove away then ditched his car and ran from the vehicle.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a witness saw Lopez's Saturn hit Bates. The witness called police, followed Lopez and watched as he left the car and ran away.

Police contacted the registered owner of the Saturn, Lopez's wife. She told investigators her husband had driven the car the night Bates was killed. Her physical description of Lopez matched the description from the witness who saw the hit-and-run.

Police later found Lopez hiding at a friend's house. Investigators say Lopez waived his Miranda rights and confessed to hitting Bates with his car. He also allegedly stated he drank "six to seven" beers before driving and was "a little drunk."

Police said Lopez also told several witnesses, including his wife, that he'd killed a woman.

Police arrested Lopez on complaints of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, driving without a license, and transporting an open container in the vehicle.
