The Oklahoma Sooners men's basketball program released the details of the second annual Sooner Basketball Family weekend event for alumni on Tuesday.
OU coach Lon Kruger started the event in first season last year and will again welcome back former Sooner players and coaches on Aug. 24-25 in events that are open to the public.
Among the events are a Tip In Club Golf Classic, a Wayman Tisdale Scholarship Fund dinner and the Legends Alumni Game. The public is welcome to attend all three events and the alumni game is free.
The dinner will honor OU's national runner-up 1988 team on the Lloyd Noble main floor.
"Last year's inaugural alumni weekend was a rousing success," Kruger said in a press release. "We can't wait to once again welcome back the players and coaches who made this program so successful and established our outstanding tradition. Rightly so, they take great pride in their accomplishments as Sooners and we're excited to facilitate the opportunity for them to get together, reminisce and have a great time back in Norman."
The Tip In Club Golf Classic will be held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club and costs $200 per individual and spots are limited. Friday's dinner costs $50 per person. To register for either event, or to be a sponsor, call the OU Men's Basketball Office at (405) 325-4732.
Former Sooner players and coaches will be available for autographs before and after the alumni game. The Pride of Oklahoma marching band will perform and concession stands will be open. Also, fans will have the opportunity to be photographed with current and former OU men's basketball players for the 2012-13 team schedule poster.
"We really encourage families and OU students to come out and enjoy a great afternoon with our former and current OU players and coaches," Kruger said of the alumni game. "It's all about family and fun, and we look forward to sharing that with all of our fans."
Members of the ‘88 team scheduled to be in attendance this year are Mookie Blaylock, Ricky Grace, Harvey Grant, Tyrone Jones, Stacey King, Tony Martin, Terrence Mullins, Dave Sieger, Jason Skurcenski and Andre Wiley. Head coach Billy Tubbs and assistants Mike Anderson, Jim Kerwin and Mike Mims are also scheduled to attend.
Some of the other former OU players scheduled to participate include: Steve Bajema, Al Beal, Kevin Bookout, Shawn Clark, Kenny Evans, Terry Evans, Garfield Heard, Skeeter Henry, Tim Heskett, Bobby Jack, Darryl "Choo" Kennedy, Joe King, David Little, John McCullough, Mike McCurdy, Scott Martin, Michael Neal, Kelley Newton, Ted Owens, Tommy Tubbs and Bryatt Vann with several more expected to come.
