Team USA Blasts Nigeria In Record Fashion, 156-73

To say the United States men's basketball team put on a clinic in their Olympic matchup against Nigeria would be a gross understatement.

Team USA shot 71 percent from the field, including an astounding 63 percent from three-point distance as they annihilated Nigeria, 156-73.

The 156 points were a new Olympic record while the U.S. also set records for USA basketball in points, margin of victory, three-pointers, field goal percentage, and three-pointers attempted.

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook scored 21 points to lead the Thunder contingent. Kevin Durant added 14 and James Harden chipped in with seven.

Carmelo Anthony led Team USA with 37 points on 13-16 shooting, including an incredible 10-12 from three-point distance. After yet another three-pointer in the third quarter, Anthony even gave a shrug, reminiscent of Michael Jordan in the 1992 NBA Finals against Portland.

The numbers were incredible for the Americans, made even more so by the fact international games are just 40 minutes long (four, 10-minute quarters) instead of the 48 minutes NBA players are accustomed to.

Here's just a couple of the video game-like numbers from today's game:

- 71.1 percent shooting: 59-83

- 63 percent three-point shooting: 29-46

- 38 assists on 59 baskets

- 38-to-7 assist to turnover ratio

- 24 Nigerian turnovers

Team USA will take on Lithuania on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CST. Needless to say, the result most likely will not be the same.
