Fernando Martinez hit a two-run, walk off homerun in the bottom of the tenth inning Tuesday night to lift the Oklahoma City RedHawks to an 11-10 victory over the Memphis Redbirds.
It was a wild game from the start, with Memphis scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, only to see OKC respond with four runs of its own in the bottom half. OKC added two more runs in the third when J.B. Shuck doubled home Brett Wallace and Angel Sanchez, increasing the lead to 6-3. The RedHawks added one more in the fourth, when Wallace singled home Martinez to make it 7-3, but that lead wouldn't last long.
The Redbirds scored five in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead, highlighted by Mark Hamilton's three-run homer, but there was no quit in the RedHawks.
In the bottom of the sixth, Mike Hessman responded with his 26th homer of the season, a two-run shot to give the RedHawks the lead back at 9-8.
The scoring stopped until the top of the ninth, when Memphis' Adron Chambers singled home Ryan Jackson to tie the game at 9-9. One inning later, it was Chambers again, this time singling in Zack Cox to give Memphis a 10-9 lead, but once again, the RedHawks would respond.
With one out in the bottom of the tenth, and Brandon Barnes standing on second base, Martinez crushed a two-run walk-off homerun to right field to give OKC the victory in one of the wildest games of the season.
Mickey Storey got the win to improve to 6-2 on the season, while Eduardo Sanchez took the loss to fall to 0-3.
The RedHawks will look for its fourth win in a row Thursday night in New Orleans.
