The Oklahoma City Council voted on a resolution last week declaring all city parks tobacco free.

The declaration is meant to encourage all park visitors to abide by a voluntary ‘no tobacco' policy. That policy includes both lighted and unlighted products, like chewing tobacco and snuff.

The goal of the policy is to provide a healthier environment for park visitors and to cut down on the litter associated with tobacco use.

A local community group prompted the resolution, after they approached the city parks commission urging them to come up with a tobacco-free program for city parks.
