OKLAHOMA CITY – The OKC RedHawks picked up their third straight win on Sunday with a 6-5 decision against the Tucson Padres.
Tucson took command of the game early with three runs in the top of the second, two of them coming on a homer from Blake Tekotte.
OKC chipped its way back into the game with a run each in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to cut the lead back down to 3-2.
After another run from the Padres in the top of the sixth, the RedHawks finally got over the hump with a big seventh inning.
Diory Hernandez singled to bring home Angel Sanchez to start the scoring, and Brett Wallace and Jimmy Paredes followed suit with RBI singles of their own.
By the time the seventh was over, OKC held a 5-4 lead, but Tucson came right back with an RBI groundout from Brad Davis to tie it right back up.
That set things up quite nicely for a dramatic finish for the RedHawks.
Jimmy Paredes singled on a line drive to right field, and Brett Wallace attempted to make it home for the winning run but was thrown out. As Wallace was getting picked off at home, Paredes made his way over to second.
Paredes getting in scoring position ended up being crucial. Up next for OKC was Carlos Corporan, who ended the game with a single to right that brought Paredes home for the 6-5 win.
Xavier Cedeno got the win for Oklahoma City in 1.1 innings of play, giving up one hit. Boxberger got the loss for Tucson.
OKC improved to 20-17 with the win while the Padres fell to 12-25. The teams will continue the series at 7:05 p.m. Monday in OKC.
