OKC Father Arrested, Accused Of Hitting Son With Belt

An Oklahoma City father was arrested on one count of child abuse on Monday, April 30. Oscar Wayne Navarro, 35, was taken into custody after his two children accused him of hitting his son with a belt, according to police.

Officers responded to a call of child abuse from a Department of Human Services worker at a daycare in the 2100 block of S. Bryant Avenue in Oklahoma City. The DHS worker stated she discovered bruises on the boy's left side neck and right shoulder blade area.

The DHS worker said she had spoken to the children before officers arrived. The children both said their father had hit the boy with a belt on Saturday, April 28.

When officers arrived, they said they also saw red bruising in the boy's neck and shoulder area.

Officers made contact with Navarro when he showed up at the daycare to pick up the children. Navarro explained to police that the children were in trouble for breaking his windshield and throwing things into the apartment pool.

Navarro said he grabbed his belt to scare the kids. He stated he did not see his son behind him and accidentally hit him with the belt, causing his injuries, according to the police report.

Navarro was then taken into custody and transported to Oklahoma County Jail.

According to the DHS worker, the Child Protective Services in Texas was also going to place the children in custody, because Navarro had slapped the other child in the face.

The children have been placed in protective custody.
