Board Of Education Removes OKC School From Low-Performing List

A metro school wins its fight to stay off the State's list of worst performing schools.

Thursday morning, the State School board voted to remove Sante Fe South Charter school from the list of C3 schools.

During the past two state school board meetings Sante Fe Superintendent Chris Brewster argued in front of board members that his school should not be on the list.

At the last board meeting the head of the state's C3 program admitted to board members that if evaluators had more information in his opinion Sante Fe South would not be on the list.

That prompted board members to vote to wait for more information before adding the school to the list.

According Brewster, at Santa Fe South Middle school, students show marked improvement between when they enter in 6th Grade, and leave in 8th. And they outperformed 85 of other Jr. High's and middle schools in the state.

The state will partner with the C3 schools to improve their performance.

The six schools that remain on the C3 list are: Keyes Elementary; Farris K-8; Okay High School; and Shidler Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School, both in Oklahoma City; and McLain High School in Tulsa.
