Residents, Volunteers Continue To Clean Up After Tornado Hit Woodward

One week after a deadly tornado hit the town of Woodward, residents continue the long process of cleaning and rebuilding.

More volunteers arrived Saturday morning from across the state. It is much needed help for a town that just got more bad news.

The American Red Cross hosted an orientation and training session Saturday. The extra manpower will serve meals, deliver disaster relief supplies and work at shelters.

Another need is fixing the city's "storm siren system" for future tornadoes. About a third of the sirens were knocked out. City officials are now working with several companies to try and get a new system in place as quickly as possible.

On Friday, the White House denied Governor Mary Fallin's request for federal disaster aid. Last weekend's tornado killed six people and damaged hundreds of homes and businesses.

Now, the state is requesting a disaster declaration through the U.S. Small Business Administration, which will give low interest loans for repairs not covered by insurance.
