The Red Cross of Central and Western Oklahoma is looking for volunteers who can respond to natural disasters and home fires during this year's storm and wildfire season.
According to Rusty Surette, spokesperson for the Red Cross, spring can be one of the busiest seasons for the organization with severe weather causing tornadoes and floods, which can affect communities across Oklahoma.
The Red Cross offers disaster response training for new and current volunteers on the following days:
Tuesday, April 17 (Oklahoma City)
Saturday, April 21 (Enid)
Tuesday, April 24 (Elk City)
Tuesday, May 15 (Oklahoma City)
Tuesday, May 22 (Ardmore)
Thursday, May 24 (Stillwater)
Tuesday, June 12 (Oklahoma City)
According to Red Cross officials, so far in 2012, the Red Cross has responded to nearly 300 home and apartment fires across the state.
To help Oklahomans prepare for tornadoes, earthquakes and fires, the Red Cross is teaming up with the Metropolitan Library System to host disaster preparedness workshops. The following is the schedule for those workshops:
