A study that examined data from the nation's 50 largest metro areas ranked Oklahoma City as the number one city for job creation last year.
Researchers with Gallup's Job Creating Index said the best-performing cities had above-average hiring levels combined with below-average levels of layoffs. In Oklahoma City, 37 percent of people surveyed said their employers were expanding their businesses. Twelve percent said their companies were in the middle of layoffs.
"Not only are new companies moving to Oklahoma City, but our existing businesses are increasing their workforce and solidifying their dedication to this city," said Roy H. Williams, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. "The growth of both new and existing businesses is an encouraging sign that Oklahoma City has the right climate for success."
The state of Oklahoma ranked in the top five for job creation.
