Former OKC Police Officer Pleads Guilty To Illegal Gambling

A former Oklahoma City police officer who placed online bets on sporting events in Cleveland and Seminole counties has reached a plea agreement and been sentenced.

Roland Benavides, 45, pleaded guilty Thursday in Cleveland County to one felony count of using a computer to violate the state's anti-gambling act, and one misdemeanor count of violating the state's anti-gambling act.

Under a plea agreement, he received a five-year deferred sentence and must pay court costs.

Benavides, who lives in Norman, resigned from the Oklahoma City Police Department in January.

Prosecutors say David Tune of Konawa and Clyde Lee "C.L." Richards of Norman were also involved in the illegal gambling operation. Tune has pleaded guilty to 21 counts and received a 10-year sentence. He's serving four of those years in jail. Richards pleaded guilty to one count and received a five-year deferred sentence. He must pay fines and court costs.
