STILLWATER, Oklahoma – It obviously takes a team effort to pick up a win, but Friday certainly belonged to OSU pitcher Andrew Heaney.
He took care of business with a career day on the mound, leading the Cowboys to a 2-0 victory over Alabama A&M on Friday in Stillwater.
Heaney set a career high with 13 strikeouts in the first complete game of his career. He only allowed three hits on the day and didn't walk a single batter.
Heaney, who moved to 3-1 on the year, helped the Cowboys snap a three-game losing streak and make it back to .500 this season at 7-7 overall.
Though OSU's offensive production wasn't exactly stellar in the game, it didn't need to be.
The Cowboys picked up one run in the first inning as Jarrett Higgins worked his way around the bases and eventually came home on an RBI from Zach Fish.
Higgins also scored Oklahoma State's other run in the game, this time on a sac fly from Mark Ginther in the third.
Heaney remains among the NCAA leaders in strikeouts with 44 in his first four starts.
The two teams will face off again in a doubleheader Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
