Santorum Wins Oklahoma In Super Tuesday Primary

Rick Santorum was declared winner of Oklahoma's Republican presidential primary.

With half the state's 1,961 precincts reporting unofficial returns, the former Pennsylvania senator had 33.8 percent of the vote. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had 27.5 percent, and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney had 28 percent.

Santorum made Oklahoma a priority and visited the state twice in recent weeks, calling it "ground zero of the conservative movement." Four years ago, Barack Obama failed to win a single of the state's 77 counties.

Santorum said Oklahoma fit him well and that he appealed to the conservative base of the Oklahoma Republican Party. Exit polling showed 75 percent of voters considered themselves evangelicals.

State GOP leaders say regardless of whomever the eventual nominee is Tuesday was a good night for Oklahoma.

"The most important thing is that we have to stand united whomever the nominee is because our end goal is we have to replace President Obama," said Governor Mary Fallin.

Barack Obama was declared winner of Oklahoma's Democratic presidential primary. Obama had 57 percent of the vote. Pro-life democrat Randall Terry had 18 percent of the vote, and Jim Rogers had 13.9 percent.

Voters decided on a number of other elections Tuesday night, including Major of Moore and Major of Stillwater. Glenn Lewis won re-election in Moore, and John Bartley was elected as the Major of Stillwater.
