OU's Kristen Allen dealt a one hitter Tuesday afternoon to help the Sooners run rule Austin Peay 8-0 in five innings.
The contest was the first start of the season for Allen in the circle as she became the second Sooner pitcher to throw a complete game one hitter this season. Allen struck out seven of the 17 batters she faced.
"The team came ready to play tonight. What fired me up was Kirsten Allen's energy and she nailed it today," said OU head coach Patty Gasso. "She was a senior who was absolutely controlling the game today. She's the epitome of a team player and she's been that way since she stepped onto campus. She sparked a team that was a little flat and this team wanted to score runs for here. They had her back at the plate."
OU's Javen Henson notched her first career home run in the bottom of the second over the left field fence. Her homer also plated Allee Allen from first to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, Jessica Shults walked and was sent to third on a Keilani Ricketts single to center field. With runners on the corners, Brittany Williams delivered an RBI single through Austin Peay's right side for a 3-0 OU advantage.
In the fifth, freshman Lauren Chamberlain belted her fifth home run of the season to left center to go up 4-0.
The Sooners closed-out the matchup in the bottom of the fourth thanks to three hits that plated four runs. Shults and Ricketts led off with a single and a double, respectively, they were replaced on their respective bases by Callie Parsons and Kelley Reeves. An illegal pitch by Austin Peay's Morgan Brewer sent Parsons home and Reeves to third before Williams doubled to left field to score Reeves. Two more illegal pitches by Brewer eventually plated Chamberlain putting OU on top 8-0.
Birttany Williams led the team with two hits and two RBI and the win moves OU to 15-3 on the season.
The Sooners return to the field Friday as they host the Oklahoma Spring Festival. OU will face Indiana at 6 p.m. Friday.
