New Smart Phone Device Helps Prevent Distracted Driving

A metro business hopes a small device can help curb distracted driving. It's called "Cell Control" and it literally controls how you communicate while behind the wheel.

The little device is installed in less than 15 minutes and blocks texting and emailing while you drive. It can also alert you when your loved one gets a led foot or speeds.

Cell Control can be customized to your needs, according to the staff at Jackie Cooper Electronics.

"When the car comes to a stop, you can text, you can also send and receive emails, but as soon as the car moves it blocks texting. To me it's worse than drunk driving you see people serving all on the road and you drive up next to them and they are on the cell," Donnie Chaffin said.

Distracted driving proved to be deadly for 19-year-old Brittanie Montgomery.

"To have to grasp that I lost one of my children to technology, I still can't understand it," said Gina Harris, Brittanie mother.

But now there is an app which communicates from your car to your cell to your computer. It is easily installed underneath the steering column and removed easily as well. But it works overtime to ensure your safety, according to Chaffin.

"As soon as they unplug, it would actually end a text message back to alert whoever installed the device," he said.

The app only works with droids and blackberry's. Apple is still approving it. Cell Control will be available and on sale in two weeks.

You can find the device at Jackie Cooper electronics. The initial installation costs about $60 with a monthly service fee of about $7.
