HOUSTON – Oklahoma State could barely even wait for the game to begin to start avenging the previous day's loss to Houston.
The 11th-ranked Cowgirls took out their aggression with a four-run first inning and held that lead until the end to beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-0 on Sunday.
OSU executed to perfection right out of the gates with Ari Morrison, Kelsey Anchors and Chelsea Garcia all reaching base to start things off.
Tamara Brown and Gessenia DeLaCruz followed them up with singles to score Morrison and Anchors and make it 2-0 early.
Brown and DeLaCruz both were rewarded with runs of their own for their efforts. Brown eventually made her way home on an illegal pitch and DeLaCruz scored on an error from the Islanders first baseman.
Though the Cowgirls left three on base in the first inning, the damage had already been done.
From there, sophomore Simone Freeman went to work in the circle, throwing a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts and six hits.
The win moved OSU to 4-1 on the season after the first weekend down in Houston. Up next for the Cowgirls is the ACC/Big 12/SEC Challenge in Auburn, Alabama next weekend.
They will kick it off with two games on Friday, taking on Virginia Tech at 10 a.m. and Auburn at 3 p.m.
