Memorial Service Monday For Cordell Boy Who Died After Fight

Classmates, friends and family will gather Monday afternoon to remember a 12-year-old boy who died following a fight with a 13-year-old boy inside First Baptist Church in Cordell.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at Cordell High School for Lane Madison. He died Wednesday, January 11. The Washita County Sheriff's Office said Lane hit his head on the church floor during the fight and later died at a hospital.

Deputies are still investigating and have not made any arrests, and prosecutors have not filed any charges.

More than 200 people from the small community met at the Cordell Activity Center to pray for both families involved in the tragedy. Pastor Roy Dewees said Lane's death has had a huge impact on the small town.

"Of course we focus on the tragic loss, but that anyone involved with that incident is going to be heartbroken and have a lot of pain and questions," he said.
