Trial Starts For Convicted Sex Offender Who Attacked Oklahoma Deputy

A man who tried to commit suicide with an exacto knife during a court hearing in 2009 is now on trial.

Troy Leal is charged with assault and battery on an officer.

Back in 2009, the convicted sex offender tried to commit suicide in the courtroom after a judge revoked his probation. A sheriff's deputy tried to take the knife from him and that's when Leal allegedly stabbed the deputy during a scuffle.

Leal originally pleaded guilty but withdrew that plea and asked for a new trial.
