OKLAHOMA CITY -- No room in the inn, and very little room in Santa Monica, for Joseph, Mary and the Baby Jesus.
Out along the beach in Santa Monica, it is tradition for a coalition of 13 churches to set up displays depicting the Nativity story during the Christmas season in these small enclosures, .
There are 21 enclosures in all and the churches traditionally use 14 of them.
But not this year.
After some complaints, Santa Monica set up a lottery system for the spaces, and two atheists were drawn to use 18 of the 21 spaces.
They've used only three, essentially, to mock Christianity. The other 15 are sitting empty.
One sign shows Jesus Christ, King Neptune, Santa Claus, and Satan and it reads, "Millions of Americans know myths when they see them."
Now isn't that open-minded and thoughtful of them to deny use of the other 15 to people who want to do no more than to express their freedom of religion?
For a movement that prides itself on reason, some of its adherents are being childishly unreasonable.
