MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma – Charges have been filed in the death of a 23-month old baby girl that was killed in an automobile accident on Thursday.
According to Midwest City Police, 18-year-old Anthony Travis Clifton of Midwest City faces a charge of negligent homicide.
Clifton told police he was distracted by a water fountain when he crashed into the back of a 1993 Dodge Shadow just after 9 p.m. in the 11,400 block of S.E. 15th Street on September 22.
The driver of the Dodge Shadow, Vincent Marino, had slowed down to make a right-hand turn. Police say Clifton was speeding, going 51 mph in a 45 mph area.
Marino's passengers were Ashley Hilton and her 23-month-old daughter Kaylee. Kaylee was unresponsive after the accident. The baby girl was later pronounced brain dead at the hospital but kept on life support as a possible organ donor. She was taken off life support sometime Saturday.
Once the warrant is issued, Clifton will either be arrested or he can voluntarily surrender.
If convicted, Clifton faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000.00 fine. He also could lose his driver's license for the rest of his life.
