NORMAN, Oklahoma – It might not seem normal for the coach of a No. 1 team to have serious concerns heading into his non-conference season opener.
But OU coach Bob Stoops gave a good reason for his.
Stoops was very straightforward when asked whether he was concerned over the loss of a couple of key players such as linebacker Travis Lewis.
"Absolutely," he said. "That's what happens when you get injuries and sometimes you can't avoid it."
But even though Lewis has been forced to the sidelines, Stoops said he is still a vocal leader in practice.
And several players have said the rest of the team has stepped up to help fill the leadership void left with Lewis' injury.
