MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- Midwest City can afford a new sewer plant thanks to taxpayers. Voters have approved a sales tax increase plan on Tuesday night to fund a water treatment facility.

City officials say that the 0.55 percent increase will primarily pay for the new wastewater treatment plant, costing around $45 million. The rest will go to the fire and police department, and other government needs.

The proposal passed with a 78 percent majority.
