LEXINGTON, Oklahoma – Convicted murderer Jerome Ersland has been transferred to Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington, Okla.

A judge sentenced the former pharmacist to life in prison back in July. He requested to be taken immediately to prison. On Thursday, Aug. 4, Ersland was transferred from Lexington Assessment and Reception Center to Joseph Harp, a medium security prison.

Ersland was convicted of first-degree murder in May for killing 16-year-old Antwun Parker when he and an accomplice tried to rob Reliable Pharmacy in May 2009. Prosecutors say Ersland went too far when he shot Parker an additional five times while the unarmed teen was lying on the floor bleeding from the initial gunshot wound to the head.

Some of Ersland's friends are still trying to free him from prison. They delivered a petition with 17,000 signatures to Gov. Mary Fallin's office on July 7. Gov. Fallin's office released a statement saying Ersland must follow the legal process in appealing the conviction. That means he must go through the Pardon and Parole Board first.
