OKLAHOMA CITY – The Nashville Sounds used the final three innings of Tuesday's ballgame to score six unanswered runs and down the Oklahoma City Redhawks by a final of 11-9.
The Sounds took an early lead in the game when Eric Farris blasted a three-run homer to left in the second inning to go up 3-0.
Oklahoma City responded with a big inning in the bottom of the frame. Koby Clemens got it started with a two-run home run making it 3-2, then after two consecutive two-out walks, Robinson Cancel singled home two runs before Brian Bogusevic singled one more run for a 6-3 score.
In the fourth, Nashville added two runs off a double by Mat Gamel and a single by Farris to make it 6-5.
Later in the fifth, OKC used two bases loaded walks and a fielder's choice to go up 9-5, but that lead would be short-lived.
The Sounds began their three-run rally in the eighth off Mike Rivera who launched a leadoff home run to cut the lead to 9-6. Caleb Gindl continued the hitting with a single then advanced to second on a fielder's choice and third on an error before a throw to second allowed him to steal home for a 9-7 game.
In the ninth, Douglas Arguello allowed a leadoff double before a pitching change that brought Jeff Fulchino into the game. Fulchino gave up a walk and a single to load the bases before walking Rivera and forcing in a run for a 9-8 score. Caleb Gindl next tied the game off a fielder's choice for a 9-9 deadlock that forced extra innings.
In the tenth with the bases loaded, Erick Almonte doubled to left center to score two and take the 11-9 win over the Redhawks.
The Sounds move to 51-53 on the year and reliever Jim Henderson picked up the win after tossing a scoreless ninth and tenth innings.
Oklahoma City is now 46-58 on the year and reliever Ross Wolf (2-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up the tenth inning runs.
The teams return to the field for game two of the series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
