OKLAHOMA CITY -- With several Oklahoma counties under heat advisories and the temperature expected to hit 103 degrees in Oklahoma City Monday, the Red Cross is reminding everyone to take precautions to avoid heat-related emergencies.
Tips such as proper hydration, 64 ounces of water per day, wearing loose-fitting clothing, avoiding dark-colored clothing and even eating smaller meals can help avoid heat-related sickness.
Heat cramps are an early warning of a heat-related emergency, and should be remedied by the intake of electrolytes and moving to a cooler area. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are also dangers if proper steps are not taken. If you experience these symptoms, call 911 immediately.
