After Demarcus Cousins boarding pass was denied for the Kings team plane thanks to his lockerroom hissy fit, someone in the Blitz office made some remark about how all the teams that didnt draft him this year are breathing a sigh of relief because hes a head case. Maybe, I dont know. Thats not the point of this blog. The point is, we went back and looked up last years NBA Draft. I wont make you read through the 2nd round picks (I dont want to type them all). Ill just tell you that the Knicks took Landry Fields at #39 and thats about it.
Heres the point. This class stinks! I mean really stinks! John Wall is a player. DeMarcus Cousins could turn into something someday, but hes just as likely to end up on TMZ. And beyond that you cant convince me that theres one other player in this draft that will ever threaten to be an All-Star. The #2 pick, Evan Turner, is averaging 7 points a game. The #3 pick, Derrick Favors, is averaging 6 points a game. Landry Fields is a nice story coming out of the 2nd round to be a contributor for New York, but hes a role player at best. Im not so sure Trevor Booker wasnt the steal of the draft at #23 by Minnesota. He looked like a beast against the Thunder a couple weeks ago.
I think well look back at the 2010 NBA Draft as the worst draft in league history. Every other year you can go back and find at least 5 guys who turned out to be really good players.
2009 - Blake Griffin, Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry, Brandon Jennings, DeJuan Blair
2008 - Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Eric Gordon
2007 - Kevin Durant, Al Horford, Joakim Noah, Aaron Brooks, Marc Gasol
2006 - LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy, Rudy Gay, Rajon Rondo, Paul Millsap
2005 - Andrew Bogut, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Raymond Felton, Andrew Bynum
2004 - Dwight Howard, Emeka Okafor, Ben Gordon, Al Jefferson, Andre Iguodala
2003 - Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, David West
2002 - Yao Ming, Nene, Amare Stoudemire, Carlos Boozer, Caron Butler
2001 - Pau Gasol, Joe Johnson, Richard Jefferson, Zach Randolph, Tony Parker
You get the point. Who in the world will be the 5 guys we remember from the 2010 draft? Good luck.
