Bob Stoops called the report that he's interested in Notre Dame "ridiculous." That's good to hear. Although the one-day break from the "who's injured now" Sooner extravaganza was nice for this member of the fourth estate.
But I do disagree with the popular thought I heard the last 24 hours that Notre Dame is no longer an elite job in college football and will never be back among the royalty. That's exactly what they said about Oklahoma and Alabama and USC and Penn State and on and on. That's silly.
Notre Dame is still Notre Dame. When Notre Dame calls you answer the phone. If Bob Stoops or Pete Carroll or Urban Meyer were under the golden dome they'd be in the title hunt within three years.
I know there are inherent challenges in South Bend, but there are inherent advantages as well. Notre Dame is not a good job, it is a GREAT job. Bob Davie and Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis are not GREAT coaches.
Touchdown Jesus will be back. I'm just glad Bob Stoops won't be with him.
