CHICKASHA, Oklahoma -- A 30-year-old mother of two is suspected of trying to kill her son, daughter and herself with an overdose of pills at a Chickasha hotel.
Rebecca Lynn Koehler is in the Grady County jail on suicide watch.
Formal charges have not yet been filed against Koehler but the Grady County District Attorney's office planned to charge her with child abuse.
The arrest affidavit stated Koehler wrote a note that said, "I'm so tired of living" and "the only true escape is death."
According to the affidavit, Koehler's nine-year-old son called for help after he saw his mother ingest some pills, stumble around and fall down. The boy also reported his mother gave him and his six-year-old sister a handful of pills and told them if they took them, they'd "be together forever."
The affidavit went on to say Koehler had contemplated killing herself and her children for several months but it "took her a year to do it" in order to keep her family safe from her ex-husband.
Police said she admitted during the investigation that this was an attempt to take her children's lives along with her own.
The children are not in state protective custody but are believed to be in the custody of their father who lives in Texas, who filed for an emergency protective order.
