KINGFISHER, Oklahoma -- The Kingfisher High School and Middle School band director resigned earlier this month and was arrested Wednesday after being investigated for possession of child pornography.
Kingfisher Superintendent Don Scales said 24-year-old Keith Medders gave his resignation on February 4. Scales said Medders told him the FBI had been to his house and picked up his computer to evaluate it for "some concerns." Scales said Medders admitted to having questionable material on his computer. The next day Medders turned in his resignation letter citing "personal reasons."
"He was a dynamic teacher," Scales said. "We were in disbelief. It's unfortunate and there's no place for it in education. It's just not acceptable anywhere," Scales said.
According to court records, Medders was arrested and charged on Wednesday for felony procuring, possessing and distributing child pornography.
Scales said the district is doing its own investigation to make sure no students were involved, but at this point Scales said he does not believe that is the case.
Medders' bond was set $25,000 bond.
