Wind Chills To Dip Well Below Zero In Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Bitterly cold air left in the wake of a massive winter storm will hang out over Oklahoma through Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning for 22 counties in northern and western Oklahoma. Forecasters say wind chills of 15 degrees below zero to 35 degrees below zero will continue through Wednesday in the Panhandle and into Thursday in other areas.

The massive winter storm dumped anywhere from one inch to nearly 2 feet of snow on Oklahoma late Monday and Tuesday, making travel treacherous from central into northeastern sections of the state. Here are some of the higher snowfall amounts from the National Weather Service:

• Up to 21 inches of snow Owasso area
• 20 inches Claremore and Sperry
• 17 inches Hominy
• 16 inches Skiatook
• 14 inches Shawnee, Tulsa
• 13 inches Miami
• 12 inches Broken Arrow, Commerce, Oklahoma City, Vinita
• 11.5 inches Bristow
• 11 inches Henryetta
• 10 inches Nowata, Perkins, Pryor, Wagoner
• 9 inches Ada, Glenpool, Muskogee
• 8 inches Braman, Checotah, Elmore City, Grove, Norman area, Pawnee, Sulphur, Yukon
• 7.5 inches Oaks

Norman received up to a half-inch of hail during a thunderstorm that preceded sleet and snow. Forecasters say sleet accumulations exceeded 1.5 inches in areas of south-central Oklahoma.
