CHOCTAW, Oklahoma – An I-40 road project may stall the rebuilding of two convenience stores that were destroyed by a tornado on May 10, 2010.
The Love's and another convenience store and gas station at I-40 and Choctaw Road were wiped out by the May 10 storms. There were rumors the stores could not be rebuilt because of sewer lines underneath the properties.
However, that's not the case.
There's a new $25 million road project planned for the area.
"We're widening the area from four to six lanes. We're actually building auxiliary lanes where it merges with I-240 as well," said Oklahoma Department of Transportation spokesperson Terry Angier.
ODOT said the companies are in the process of deciding whether or not to rebuild while that project is happening. It could be 2013 before the work is finished.
