Emily Wood joined the News 9 team in January 2010. Wood moved to the Sooner State from Mississippi and is happy to now call herself an Oklahoman. She co-anchors News 9 This Morning with Stan Miller weekdays from 4 to 5 a.m. You can also see her stories and live reports in other newscasts.
Wood was raised in a small town in the Ozark Mountains of Southern Missouri. She landed her first TV News gig when she was 16, covering county elections for a local cable station. Wood's love for meeting new people and sharing their stories is what convinced her to pursue a career in News. Her passion for writing took her to the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University where she studied both journalism and sociology.
Before joining the News 9 team, Wood worked as a general assignment reporter at WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi. In her two years at WJTV, she regularly reported on crime, followed the devastation left behind by tornadoes, and uncovered political corruption. Wood also traveled to McComb, Mississippi to witness the last public appearance of blues legend Bo Didley before his death in 2008 and won an Associated Press Award for her coverage of the event.
Wood also worked as a freelance reporter for KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri, and completed an on-air reporting internship at WGEM in Quincy, Illinois. In 2005, Wood helped produce a documentary, "The Hope and Heart of Autism," which won the Broadcast Educators Association Award for "Best in Festival."
When she's not out reporting, Wood enjoys practicing her boxing and martial arts skills. She also likes spending time with friends and family and travels as much as possible. Wood recently spent several months living in Italy where she studied the language and worked with journalists and other professionals to better understand the European view of America during the 2009 election cycle. Wood is also a fitness enthusiast and has worked as an aerobics instructor, personal trainer and health educator.
Wood is always interested in hearing your story ideas, so feel free to send her an email.
